Failure to properly incorporate the fertilizer can result in nitrogen loss to the atmosphere as ammonia gas, which can be mitigated through thorough mixing or heavy irrigation.

For optimal results, urea fertilizer can be combined with calcium cyanamide, mono- or diammonium phosphate, or sulphate of potash. However, it is not recommended to mix urea with superphosphate fertilizers.
